Brady's How to get into Astrophotography

Brady's How to get into Astro-photography

This is just my opinion on how to get into astrophotography, if you are a complete beginner.  If you are not a complete beginner with professional cameras, but still early on, maybe skip down a bit to where you are now...LOL.

First:

Astro-photography isn't a hobby to start because you are bored.  It would be kind of like deciding you wanted to become a car mechanic because you were bored.  You can't shoot galaxies and nebula with just your smart phone, or with a $50 walmart telescope, after watching a 5 minute youtube video.  Again, it's not rocket science, but there is a lot of stuff to learn, and you will have to spend some money to get going.

I only bring this up, because with every hobby, I see people who jump in and spend even thousands of dollars, and then sell all of it 3-6 months later.

If you are someone who has always been fascinated by astronomy, this is probably something you will love.  But even if you have the excitement for it, if you try to jump too far ahead, you may likely become frustrated and give up.

The best learning method, in my opinion, is to start with the simple stuff, and work your way up.  If you go and spend thousands on an expensive tracking mount, huge telescope, full frame camera, guiding scope and guiding camera before you know how even a DSLR works, it will be like trying to take basic math, algebra, geometry, & trigonometry all at the same time.  Would you do that?

Fortunately, if you do love astronomy, starting with the basic stuff should be exciting too.
